French Onion Dip
French Onion Dip
Ingredients
- 1 cup Sour Cream
- 1 cup Mayonnaise
- 1 medium Yellow Onion, finely diced
- 1-2 tablespoons Unsalted Butter or Olive Oil
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire Sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon Garlic Powder
- 1/2 teaspoon Onion Powder
- 1/4 teaspoon Salt (or to taste)
- 1/4 teaspoon Freshly Ground Black Pepper
- Optional: Fresh Chives, finely chopped, for garnish
Method
- Caramelize the Onions:
- Heat a skillet over medium heat and melt the butter or add olive oil.
- Add the diced onions and cook slowly, stirring occasionally, until they turn golden brown and caramelized (about 15-20 minutes). Lower the heat if they start to brown too quickly.
- Remove the onions from heat and let them cool completely.
- Mix the Dip:
- In a medium bowl, combine sour cream, mayonnaise, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
- Fold in the cooled caramelized onions, mixing well.
- Chill:
- Cover the dip and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to let the flavors meld.
- Serve:
- Garnish with fresh chives, if desired.
- Serve with potato chips, vegetable sticks, or crackers.
This homemade French Onion Dip is a flavorful addition to your Thanksgiving appetizers!
