Green Bean Casserole

Green Bean Casserole

Ingredients

  • 4 slices bacon

  • 1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup

  • 1 (8 ounce) can water chestnuts, drained and chopped (typically

    found in Asian food aisle)

  • 3/4 cup milk (half-and-half also works fine)

  • 2 (15 ounce) cans green beans, drained (Mom used to use French cut,

    which is preferable)

  • ground black pepper to taste

  • 1 1/3 cups French-fried onions

  • 3/4 cup Cheddar cheese (thicker works well)

Note: It's okay if the amount in the can purchased doesn't

perfectly match the recipe.

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C)

  2. Place bacon in a large, deep skillet

  3. Cook over medium high heat until evenly brown. Drain, crumble or

chop into tiny strips and set aside

  4. In a 1-1/2 quart casserole dish, mix together the bacon, soup, water

chestnuts, milk, green beans, 1/2 cup cheese, and pinch of black

    pepper

  5. Bake for 30 minutes or until heated through

  6. Stir and top with French fried onions and 1/4 cup cheese distributed

    evenly

  7. Bake for 5 additional minutes or until onions are golden brown.
